Our Story
I created this site as a father of two young children who struggled to find a babysitter.
When we needed childcare rather quickly, I assumed there must already be some well-designed websites for that. Unfortunately, I soon realized that most childcare platforms hide direct contact and basic features behind paid options and force you to post an ad.
When I saw that one of these sites was asking more than CHF 30 per month just to read messages and contact babysitters, I felt that something wasn’t right. 😡
Since I’m a web developer and currently working on a broader project — a platform connecting local producers and artisans (loqal.ch) — I thought this type of site would be a great opportunity to test various technologies I plan to use for loqal.ch on a smaller scale, while still fitting perfectly with the vision of a web that serves people and strengthens local communities.
That’s how I decided to create this platform and make it completely free of charge, using the loqal.ch domain name and the server I already had available.
How It Works
For Parents
Babysitter search works mainly by geographic proximity. By specifying your town, you’ll be taken to a list of babysitter profiles who have included this area in their working radius, sorted by distance.
You can then filter results by several criteria: experience, spoken languages, certifications, availability, and rates.
Once you’ve found an interesting profile, you can contact the babysitter directly (internal messaging, email, WhatsApp, Messenger or phone) depending on the options they’ve chosen to make available.
For Babysitters
Create your profile in just a few minutes by completing the following steps: basic information, experience and preferences, work area and travel radius, availability and rates, documents and identity verification (optional but recommended).
Work Area and Radius
When setting your work area, you choose your main town and a radius in kilometers. The system automatically calculates all towns and villages within that radius where you are available. You can then fine-tune this selection by manually adding or removing specific locations. This flexibility allows you to control exactly where you are available to work.
Verification and Safety
Identity verification is done from the “Documents and Verification” page when editing your profile. Uploaded identity documents are visible only to you and administrators. Once your identity has been validated, all documents are automatically deleted from our servers and your profile will display a verification badge.
Easy Login
You can create an account the usual way with email verification, or use Google Login. When logging in with Google, we only retrieve your name, email, and profile picture, all of which you can modify at any time in your settings.
Communication and Reviews
Our messaging system allows parents and babysitters to communicate directly and freely. If you encounter any issue, you can contact us to report a problem or inappropriate behavior.
After a successful babysitting session, parents can leave a review and rating. Babysitters can then respond to reviews to demonstrate their professionalism and commitment.
Our Commitment
As long as the workload associated with running this site remains manageable, it will always stay completely free and ad-free. It’s possible that moderation and support may one day require external help, and I hope to be able to count on volunteers. If you’re interested, feel free to let us know 😉.
